“ This was the best night of my life! ”

- Kamaile

Like any other pre-teen girl, Kamaile loves pop music and spends her days listening to the tunes of one famous artist in particular. Let us give you a hint; he started out as a teen idol in a well-known boy band, he’s famous for his hit song, “Cry me a river” and now he’s a recognized Hollywood superstar! Girls all around the world would understand why 12-year-old Kamaile wished to meet this talented singer, actor and dancer.

Diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was just six months old, Kamaile faces challenges every day to maintaining her health and strength.

“It has been a very long, bumpy road ever since. All in all, she's been doing great, but there have been a lot of times where it has been very hard on her.  The numerous hospital stays, the tests, the late nights. Kamaile is so amazing and I am so proud of how brave she is” said her mom, Tiana.

Kamaile’s condition is something most of her classmates and friends are not able to relate to. However, one thing she does share with many teens her age is her love for her favorite musical artist.

And now, she can say that she has met him.

It was off to San Francisco for Kamaile and her family where she would meet her idol and attend his sold-out concert!

Before the show, Kamaile and her family experienced all the exciting tourist destinations and activities in San Francisco. From visiting Fisherman’s Wharf and eating its famous clam chowder to going to the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, riding the cable cars in Chinatown, and of course, shopping in Union Square. Kamaile and her family did all the “must dos” while in the City by the Bay.

Finally, the day she’d been waiting for came! Kamaile and her family drove down to San Jose in a private limo for the artist’s concert.  She was invited to his family room backstage before the concert where she got to talk to him one-on-one, take countless photos and get his autograph!

“When he came in, Kamaile couldn't stop smiling!  She had wrote some questions down to ask him, so they sat down and talked for about a half hour. We then took pictures(a lot!) with him and he signed a huge poster that we had brought with us, a polaroid she took with him on her new camera she had bought and also a signed limited edition vinyl album he had brought for her! Right before he left and we were saying goodbye, Kamaile asked for one more thing, a selfie, taken with him with her phone!”

To top off the whole experience, Kamaile and her family were given some of the best seats in the arena!

“We were 20 feet away from the stage! It was an amazing show! He performed for almost 2 ½ hours with no intermissions!” Kamaile sang and danced the night away right next to the famous pop legend.

“It was the best night of my life!” she exclaimed.

Kamaile is still glowing weeks after her trip and she gets excited every time she shares her experience with others.

“She still talks about it with a huge smile on her face! She also gets to relive it every time someone asks her what it was like to meet him” said Tiana.

Kamaile’s wish journey boosted her confidence and gave her something to look forward to. Now, every time she listens to one of his songs, she’s reminded of the best night of her life.

“The experience was a like a rush. It was really nerve racking and scary. It was definitely the best thing that’s ever happened, and I am forever grateful.” – Kamaile

It will help me to understand that having Cystic Fibrosis has its ups and downs. I can’t really do anything about it now but I can cherish the moments I have for the rest of my life and just be grateful. ”
