After years of watching Disney movies and dreaming of meeting her favorite character, Tinkerbell, in real life, 16-year-old Honolulu wish kid Cindy and her family recently experienced an unforgettable wish come true at Disneyland.
Diagnosed with a nervous system disorder at just 2 years old, Cindy’s journey has been far from easy. But through it all, she’s remained a happy, positive child who enjoys spending time with her family and taking in new sights.
From the very first day Cindy’s family found out she was eligible for a wish, wish dad Jim says it “felt like a dream come true for our child.” Although Cindy is nonverbal, Jim and Cindy’s wish granters knew that taking in the magical sights of Disneyland with her family and meeting Tinkerbell in person would be a life-changing experience for her.
“I could feel the joy and excitement on her face on the very first day [we got to] Disneyland, and it made us feel so grateful to Make-A-Wish,” said Jim. “This was the most memorable trip we have ever had, and we felt like VIPs from the very first day.”
Of course, the most important part of the experience was meeting Tinkerbell off screen and in person. “Our favorite part of the wish was taking pictures with Tinkerbell,” said Jim. “It was really special that our daughter could see [her] in real life.”
Jim has noticed a marked change in Cindy since her wish came true, noting that she is more playful and interactive. The wish impacted the entire family, as well, giving them much-needed time away together.
Said Jim, “We are so thankful to Make-A-Wish for the rest of our lives…it feels like family to us.”
