It’s not only the “rich and the famous” who can shop ‘til they drop. Caitlin experienced a true VIP shopping spree at Ala Moana Center, accompanied by her best friend and big sister, Brittany.
Every young fashionista loves hanging out with girlfriends and dressing up in the latest trends. For Caitlin, a seventeen-year-old battling langerhans cell histiocytosis, care-free moments like this are not always possible. So when it came time to choose her wish, Caitlin couldn’t think of anything more exciting than to have a grand shopping spree with her sister!
Being from Maui, Caitlin doesn’t often get to shop in large shopping malls, so when Make-A-Wish Hawaii surprised her with a shopping spree at the largest outdoor mall in the country, Ala Moana Center, her face immediately lit up! The best part about it was that she could bring her sister along for the once-in-a-lifetime experience!
Picked up in a limo at the airport, Caitlin and her sister Brittany were ready to begin their twelve hour shopping spree in celebrity style. As they pulled up to Ala Moana Center, Caitlin was overwhelmed by the size and possibilities for her day-long shopping spree – it was truly a fashion haven! From Macy’s to Forever21, the girls roamed through the mall, and by the middle of the day, Caitlin carried bags filled with treasures of everything she could get her hands on!
After hours of shopping, Caitlin and Brittany took a well-earned break at California Pizza Kitchen, where they refueled and talked about all the cool stuff they bought so far…..and then it was back to SHOPPING! By the end of the day the girls were exhausted – after all they spent 12 hours walking through the mall, having an absolute blast with each other.
Caitlin’s wish was not only an opportunity to indulge in the latest fashions, it was also a chance to bond with her sister – one of her biggest supporters. A wish like Caitlin’s is an inspirational example of how a wish experience goes beyond being a simple moment in time bringing instantaneous joy – it truly shows how a wish can bring a family together, create lasting memories and inspire hope in the children who need it most.
