From dancing hula competitively to appreciating all Hawaiian crafts, Kaikea truly loves his Hawaiian culture and the traditions that come along with it.  Alongside his love for his culture, he enjoys adventure and above all, loves spending time with his ohana. Due to the overwhelming love Kaikea has for his family, it was important for him to choose a wish that would bring hope and joy to a hard time in their lives – Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas it was! “He really wanted us to be able to relax and just stay in one place together that was fun and relaxing for all of us,” says his mom, “He thought if it was far away from home and in another country it would make it hard for all of us to be contacted by work and outside distractions.”

When Kaikea’s family found out about his bone cancer in his skull, their lives were filled with worry and stress, his mom spent most of her time doing medical research and traveling to medical appointments in Oahu and California and his dad took care of his two brothers. This wish come true was the first time since before the diagnosis that they could spend time together as a family worry-free.

Kaikeaʻs favorite part of his wish was the waterpark. “We all loved the slides especially the lazy river and the water tube slide. As a family, we all got to go down the lazy river rapids together and we doubled up going down the water tube slide” said his mom.

“We are so very grateful for Kaikea receiving a Wish. At first, it was bitter sweet because it confirmed that he had a life-threatening medical condition but this opportunity distracted Kaikea from having to face his medical condition,” says his mom, “He kept telling me how he just wanted to be a normal teenager and asked why this was happening to him,” his mom continues, “A wish gives a child that is battling a life threatening medical condition, HOPE. It gives them something positive, exciting, fun, to look forward to and at times distracts them from all of the negative emotions.”

This wish gave Kaikea and his family time together as a family to laugh, smile and truly enjoy one another’s company without any of fears, worries, or stress.

What a great experience for Kaikea and the boys. The resort was over the top, especially the pool and waterslides. Our family truly enjoyed ourselves! We are so grateful for Make-a-Wish Hawaii! ”
