A New Independence

  • The only thing Jayce and his family worried about this week was which of their favorite places they should go next.

  • Jayce's spirit filled with joy and he smiled BIG throughout his wish come true.

  • Jayce learns that he would soon be on the trip of his life to Disney World with his ohana!

“ I think there is a healing power because it just made him feel like he's special. ”

- Christina, Jayce's mom

Diagnosed with vasculitis when he was just 12 months old, Jayce has spent most of his life facing a disease that has deprived him of his ability to move or speak on his own.

“He could never walk,” explained Jayce’s mom, Christina. “He has multiple doctors here in Hilo and on Oahu. I give him daily shots and we have to be careful to prevent any kind of sickness because it triggers the disease.”

Despite all this worry, Christina tries to keep life as normal as possible for her brave boy.

“Jayce goes to school and he enjoys it a lot. He loves to try and do things that normal people can do. Most of all he is VERY SMART. He understands what I'm telling him or anyone tells him.”

So when wish granters asked him to make a wish, Jayce knew exactly what he wanted – to meet his favorite characters at Walt Disney World!

“It was truly magical,” said Christina. Jayce met his favorite character, Elmo, and went to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and checked out Give Kids the World Village.

“It made him feel like he’s special and that he could be normal for once without people looking at him in a weird way. He was happy to see people just like him who are different.”

His smile shined so bright that it lit up the island even when he and his ohana came back from his trip.

“He will go on his iPad or my phone and watch videos and look at pictures of him on the trip and he always smiles.”

Christina has even seen how the wish has affected Jayce’s confidence. She explained, “I think his personality has changed since we got back. He just enjoyed it so much that he thinks he’s the boss now LOL.”
