Since his diagnosis in May 2013, Jace’s routine has been consumed by lab appointments, treatments and administering medications for leukemia. His battle has not been easy, but Jace fights with the strength of his entire family.
“His fight is our fight,” explained his mom, Ashley. This close-knit family knows that together, they can overcome anything, even leukemia.
Although Jace has the support of his family surrounding him, he needed something to make him feel like a kid again. And that's exactly what his wish gave him. The wish process, from beginning to end, gave Jace and his family hope for a brighter and more fun-filled future. Ashley expressed, “Just making a wish brought us so much excitement and gave us more of a positive outlook."
Jace's love for animals inspired his wish to go to the famed Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida. His mom fondly remembers the excitement on Jace’s face when his grandparents pulled up in the limo to join him on his wish trip. It was a complete surprise and made the family event unforgettable.
Once Jace and his family arrived in Orlando, he was surprised by someone else he loved very much, Stitch! Together, Jace and Stitch shared high-fives and hugs, played games like checkers, and danced hula. These are stories that Jace loves to mention when asked about his wish and moments he will never forget. Ashley recounts, “All he did was giggle the whole time! It was awesome!”
Jace was eager and ready to explore every opportunity he could get his hands on. He was brave, like always, as he held a live alligator, allowed a snake to sit on his shoulders and explored the Jurassic Park exhibit.
Ashley witnessed the impact of a wish while watching her son light up from the delight of his Florida adventure. She wraps up her thoughts perfectly, saying, "When a wish is granted, it takes the burden away from the chaos and gives hope to those involved with renewed spirit."
For this wish family, it was important that Jace was able to feel the joy of being a young child without the worries that come from having cancer.
"A wish can take a child to their happy place, where they don’t have to worry about anything, but can concentrate on enjoying themselves in the moment."
