When Faith was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, her everyday life changed drastically. The time she once spent going to school, playing outside and hanging out with her family, was replaced with hospital visits, doctor’s appointments and treatment schedules. Faith's medical routine became the new norm.
After a year and a half of treatment and recovery, her wish broke apart her routine to reveal hope. What she needed was a jump start, an experience that filled her spirit with pure joy, and what better way to inspire happiness than through a wish? For the six-year-old and her family, her wish to go on a Disney Cruise wasn’t just a break from her battle, it opened their eyes up to all the opportunities life has to offer.
Once Faith and her family stepped aboard the Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship, they entered a whole new world filled with wonderful amenities, beautiful princesses, fun activities and all the Disney characters they had seen so many times on TV! Faith was so mesmerized the she even got autographs from Mickey and the gang. While on the cruise, Faith enjoyed going to the bippity boppity boutique where she got all fancied up as a mermaid. She also had a blast at the Pirate deck party where she and her sister, Grace, dressed up as pirates and danced the night away.
The ship was amazing, but the port destinations were even better! In Cozumel, Mexico, Faith and her family got to experience a belly ride on a dolphin, and while in Grand Cayman, they spent the day on a beautiful white sand beach where Faith's brother, Levi, spotted a sting ray! The family also got to see Dunn's river falls while in Jamaica, and even went on a Jamaican Bobsled ride! The final destination was the Disney Bahama island of Castaway Cay, where they enjoyed a leisurely bike ride, swam at the beautiful beach and met even more famous Disney Characters!
Faith and her family didn’t have a single worry during the wish, they were just living in the moment, having fun and making memories that will last them a lifetime. After going through so much for almost two years, the family was able to embrace every smile and every exciting opportunity as something truly magical.
“The experience instilled an amazement and wonder in her that was lost at times as a patient”, said Faith’s mom, Neav. “[The significance of a wish is] to experience joy, passion, opportunity and fun…the things that make life so special.”
