Fourteen year-old Angelina has always envisioned herself strutting down Broadway in a designer dress holding a designer purse. She dreams of one day moving to the Big Apple to be surrounded by the chic and exciting city lifestyle!
When Angelina was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, her life was put on hold. When all her friends were going to the mall, she had to go to the hospital for treatments. Being a normal teenage girl seemed unlikely, until she was told that she would be given the gift of a wish. It didn’t take long for this big city dreamer to figure out what she wanted! She wished to go to New York City to experience everything the grand city has to offer!
Angelina’s trip started out at Central Park, a popular New York City attraction. She and her family strolled through a snowy Central Park to the Zoo where they gazed at Polar Bears and Sea Lions. The next day, Angelina and her family went to the Radio City Christmas spectacular and enjoyed the lively Holiday Show. The classic New York City event featured the famous Rockettes who performed fantastic sets to some fun Holiday music. The show was full of glitz, glamour and Christmas cheer!
The list of attractions was endless! Angelina went on a Famous Fat Dave Tour, visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, went ice skating at Rockefeller Center, enjoyed a Harbor Cruise to the Statue of Liberty and visited the September 11th memorial! But perhaps the most memorable part of the entire trip for Angelina, was watching “The Lion King” on Broadway. The show was a magnificent musical performance that wowed Angelina and her family. A close second to the Broadway show was shopping at Macys during the Believe campaign! The fashionista relished in all the brand names – she tried on clothes, bags and jewelry from all her favorite designers.
The busy week in New York was an amazing experience for both Angelina and her family. It helped her start focusing more on her future in the big city and less on the daily struggles of living with Leukemia. The escape brought a renewed sense of hope and optimism to the family as a whole. Her mother described the impact of the wish saying, “She was having fun like a normal teenager and she needs that.”
