Glenn and Debbie Furuya of Leadership Works LLC were among thousands of runners at last year's Jingle Rock Run 5K to raise funds for Hawaii Wish Kids. When Wish Kid Reece raced up next to them at the halfway point, an unexpected gift was exchanged.
Jingle Rock Run 2014 brought our community together to help grant wishes for local children facing life-threatening medical conditions. Dozens of wish kids came out to join in on the fun including 16-year-old Reece whose wish to go to Walt Disney World gave him motivation to fight cancer four years ago. While running the course, Reece met Glenn and Debbie Furuya of Leadership Works LLC, and touched their hearts with his story. He gave them an unexpected gift that "truly represents the real spirit of Christmas;" the gift of inspiration. His positive attitude, courage and spirit inspired Debbie and her family to become wish donors that day.
Glenn wrote about the experience saying, "He was so grateful [for the donation] and, like the awesome kid he is, thanked us for our generosity to which Debbie quickly replied, 'You've given me more than I could ever give you.' Reece’s reply? 'It’s all about giving, right?'"
This magical exchange shows that the impact of a wish extends far beyond the wish itself; it continues to bring hope, strength and joy to wish kids and the community for years to come. We encourage you to make more moments like this possible by joining us at this year's Jingle Rock Run!
