Growing up in Hawaii, Alex has developed a love for the white, sandy beaches and beautiful coastlines, but her favorite Hawaii treasure lies deeper in the ocean, where all the native sea creatures reside.
Alex is fascinated by all kinds of sea animals, including fishies, turtles and dolphins. So when it was time for Alex to make her wish, she dove right in and wished to be a dophin trainer so she could be surrounded by her favorite creaturs. Swimming with dolphins would be an experience to look forward to for any child. However, for Alex and her family, it was also chance to escape from the rigorous schedule of medical treatments necessitated by Alex’s tumor.
During the weeks and days leading up to her wish, Alex’s mom reported that “Alex was extremely excited for her wish and asked about it every single day.” Her wish was a bright light in the future.
The wait was finally over when a limo arrived at Alex’s house and chauffeured her and her family over to the airport to begin their under-the-sea adventures on the Kona Coast. Alex was living her dream, sporting her large heart-shaped sunglasses and stylish sun hat. Oce they arrived at the Hilton Waikoloa Village, the family enjoyed quality time together, playing on the beach and splashing in the rolling waves.
Then, Alex was treated to an exciting two-day dolphin encounter to deliver an experience of a lifetime! She took a dip into the crystal blue waters of the lagoon, where she was right alongside the dolphins. She learned from the expertise of the trainers and enjoyed being up close and personal with the loving creatures, even sharing a special kiss with one of them!
Of course, no wish would be complete without a splash of Make-A-Wish® magic and surprise. A month prior to Alex’s arrival, a baby dolphin was born into the Waikoloa family. With the help of Dolphin Quest Hawaii, Alex was invited to be the guest of honor at the naming ceremony for the baby dolphin. Alex was the first to announce the name of the new baby at the ceremony and was treated to a special visit with new baby “Ipo” which means beloved or sweetheart.
Since she has returned home, Alex has not stopped talking about her time training the dolphins. Her experience was a gift to the whole family and the joy in Alex’s eyes is endless.
