Wish Volunteer Dianne Sanae Carroll shares her heart for our mission

Do I have a child? No. Well, why do I do this? I was tired of seeing kids be in the hospital for most of their lives, much as I was. They don't have a chance to be kids, and that is heartbreaking for me to see.

Greetings from Wish Land!

I am a volunteer wish granter and ambassador for Make-A-Wish® Hawaii.  I am 32 years old, and I got involved with this non-profit about five years ago when I was also approached to become the Vice Chair of CureSearch, which is an organization to fund research for childhood cancers.

Each time I get to be part of a live wish reveal, or a wish party, or even when I am asked what I do for Make-A-Wish Hawaii, it hits me EVERY SINGLE TIME. Seeing the kids' faces when we tell them that their wish is coming true, and that they get to have a break from the hospital for a while because they are going to Walt Disney World® Resort or they get to be a superhero for a day - That is what makes MY day.

Another Hawaii Wish Ambassador is Hawaii Musician Henry Kapono. I'm no Henry, but what is similar about us is that we have huge hearts, hearts to make a difference in the lives of others, and hearts to give. Mr. Kapono recently wrote a song for Make-A-Wish Hawaii, entitled "Angel." It talks about how we can be Angels to these kids. As much as I want to be an angel to these kids, I think these kids are my angels - so full of life, in the face of adversity. We could all learn a thing or two from them.

So, to all the volunteers out there, I thank you. And for all the people who want to help, what are you waiting for?  Remember, nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something.
