Give Wishes Wings to help 500 wishes

On Friday, June 26th, Make-A-Wish Hawaii raised more than $41,000 and nearly 2.7 million airline miles during the 2nd Annual Give Wishes Wings launch, held in partnership with 94.7 KUMU and KHON2 News.

This summertime drive, sponsored by Wheels for Wishes, Dave & Buster’s Honolulu and Revolusun, aims to help 500 wishes to and from Hawaii take flight.

Most wishes of Hawaii keiki - about 80% - involve travel. In 2015 alone, it will take 13 million miles to send wish kids and their families on their wishes.

Friday’s drive began at 6 a.m., when KHON2 and 94.7 KUMU hit the airwaves with wish stories and wishes waiting to take flight. Volunteers staffed the Downtown Honolulu office and answered phones from callers who pledged their donations of money or miles. Wish alumni visited the office to wish it forward, including Reece, who wished to travel to Walt Disney World® Resort during Star Wars Weekend, and Tiare, who traveled to California to cheer with the San Francisco 49ers Gold Rush Cheerleaders.

Every hour, there were special giveaways to participating callers from our sponsors. Callers went away with treats from Jamba Juice, Papa John’s, Big City Dinner, and Jack in the Box. Other prized wins included tickets to the Diamond Head Classic, The Hawaii Bowl, and sought-after hats designed by Wish Alumna Skylar, battling lupus. Her wish was to give the gift of safety through the creation of her sun-safe hat line, HiSky Hats.

As an added incentive, Alaska Airlines matched mile donations of 1,000 or more, up to 1 million miles, boosting our grand total to 2.7 million air miles at the end of our Give Wishes Wings kick-off event.

Thank you to our generous donors, community partners, sponsors and volunteers! You all played an integral role in the kick-off of Give Wishes Wings. Friday's drive was only the beginning as we work to help 500 wishes take flight this summer. You can still Give Wishes Wings online by making your pledge of money or miles here. Thank you!
