May 17, 2016 – (Honolulu, Hawaii) On Saturday, May 14, 2016, Make-A-Wish® Hawaii returned to the Sheraton Waikiki for the 5th annual Wish! Gala. As the largest celebration and fundraiser for Hawaii children battling life-threating medical conditions, the enchanted event was an evening full of beauty, inspiration and a collective commitment to touch the lives of every wish child in Hawaii for the year to come.
Attendees left the world behind, dressed in their best “wickedly white and wonderfully whimsical” attire, and stepped foot into the Once Upon a Wish fairytale at the Sheraton Waikiki, immortalizing the fantastical night with photos at the Cinderella carriage, bidding on luxury items in the silent auction and indulging in the royal feast that awaited at scintillating banquet tables.
The royal hosts of the evening, Howard Dashefsky, Ryan Kalei Tsuji and wish kid Violet,
enraptured guests with a spectacular program featuring a “wish reveal” for wish kid Tyrell, who learned from Alan Wong himself that his one true wish to be a professional chef was coming true; a spectacular levitation act from wish kid Leo, who wishes to be a magician; and the musical stylings of Hot Club of Hulaville, who serenaded the guests with a string quartet, trumpeter's welcome, classic Disney tunes and the Imperial March to welcome a very special wish mom in Jedi style.
With a heartfelt tribute from board chair Brigitte MacNaughton Egbert, a touching song by wish kid Violet and a warm message from President and CEO Siana Austin Hunt, the room was aglow with light sabers, wielded by those touched by the loving memory of wish kid Grayson, as a promise to support wish kids today and forever more.
“Wishes are a gift of magic,” said Siana Hunt, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Hawaii, “and the annual Wish! Gala is an incredible celebration of what a wish can, and does, do. We are so grateful for all of the guests who attended this enchanted event to support and celebrate our dedication to our children.”
The recurring themes of the night were fairytales and the stories written by children who dream. Mahalo to sponsors who help create these opportunities to unite our community and give wish children the chance to dream again; including Sheraton Waikiki, Alaska Airlines, R.M. Towill, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Star Advertiser, The Schuler Family Foundation, The Zilber Family Foundation, Disney Aulani, Mokulua Builders, Foundations Hawaii, Honolulu Magazine, Steven Boyle Designs and more.
