Make-A-Wish Hawaii and Alaska Airlines kickoff a special wish at Honolulu International Airport

Six-year-old Kapolei boy Jaevhyn, diagnosed with lymphoid leukemia at the age of four, was granted his wish of going to Walt Disney World with his family. Celebrating beating cancer, his seventh birthday and his wish Jaevhyn’s send-off was one extravagant and triumphant party.

Make-A-Wish Hawaii partnered with one of their largest supporters, Alaska Airlines to help make this wish over-the-top special for Jaevhyn and his family. Upon arrival at Honolulu International Airport on February 13, his magical journey began.  A surprise Disney’s Cars themed celebration was in store—including a race track through the airport breezeway, private tour of the cockpit and a personalized pit crew which culminated in a gate party and an added treat where Alaska Airline’s Cars themed airplane was waiting to escort the family on a VIP trip to Orlando, FL.

With his own racing t-shirt and VIP tags, Jaevhyn raced to his gate in a power wheel buggy, passing Cars characters cutouts along the way! Upon boarding, Jaevhyn was given his own goodie bag with a custom-made Cars coloring book made especially for him. Alaska Airlines welcomed their special passenger, and soon-to-be birthday boy, Jaevhyn, with cupcakes and birthday cake to be shared with all passengers on board.

“It has been an arduous three years for Jaevhyn as he battled cancer and countless treatments and procedures. We are so thrilled to see this time of celebration and respite come to fruition for this young cancer fighting hero,” said Make-A-Wish Hawaii CEO Siana Hunt. “When local businesses get involved in making a wish powerful we are able to create an unforgettable experience for not only a child but our entire community. I cannot express how grateful I am to Alaska Airlines for being an amazing supporter and for going above and beyond to make Jaevhyn’s wish magical.”

Jaevhyn’s Mother, Maria Gray, expressed her excitement for the incredible experience and said, “We feel so blessed to be going to Disney World thanks to Make-A-Wish Hawaii! Our Ohana is looking forward to spending time together as a family and celebrating Jaevhyn’s wish!”
