Make-A-Wish Hawaii makes teenager's dreams come true at UH med school


It was a Texas teenager's dream to attend medical school at the Unviersity of Hawaii. The UH Pep Band and Rainbow Dancers surprised 15-year-old Alyssa with a rally at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Make-A-Wish program granted Alyssa’s wish to attend the John A. Burns School of Medicine, so she could one day become a doctor and help people like her who are battling life-threatening medical conditions.

Cheers and the sounds of “Hawaiʻi Five-O” filled the entrance to the Stan Sheriff Center, as University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa students, faculty and staff, including the Pep Band, Rainbow Dancers and athletic teams, greeted 15-year-old Alyssa. The Make-A-Wish teen from Texas had been diagnosed with bone cancer and UH welcomed her with aloha. As part of her wish, the avid basketball fan also got to spend some quality time with UH Wahine basketball players.

Hoosier teen gives back to sick children after Make-A-Wish trip to Hawaii


The Make-A-Wish organization grants special experiences for Hoosier children battling life-threatening medical conditions. Every month, CBS4 shares a story about a Hoosier family impacted by Make-A-Wish. When Jacobson got back from her trip, she still had money left from Make-A-Wish. Instead of spending it, she donated $800 back to the organization to help fund other children's wish experiences.

They were serving up waffles and wishes at the Ward Village IBM Courtyard on Sunday and one boy got them both. Restaurants and volunteers created a champagne and waffle brunch with proceeds going to support the more than 600 keiki in Hawaii.
