Deserving wish kid Pomai had dreamed of a Harry Potter-themed hideaway—a space to call her own—for months. On Feb. 3, Make-A-Wish Hawai‘i made that dream a reality. Her wish was officially granted in her backyard at the family’s Lā‘ie home where friends, family and those involved in creating Pomai’s dream hideaway helped unveil her completed space.

LIHUE — Make-A-Wish Hawaii’s summer is off to a great start with an amazing wish revealed on Kauai.
Kapaa wish kid Harper was diagnosed in 2015 with a rare cancer affecting his body’s connective tissues. The 8-year-old has an immense curiosity for travel. Interestingly enough, it is the journey that thrills him even more than the actual destination.

Move boozy brunch with your gal pals from your usual café to Ward Village this month, for all-you-can-eat treats from some favorite local restaurants, including Square Barrels, Ravish and Arancino. Proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

May was a great month for the local auto store Island Honda, but it was also very successful for two local charities, including Make-A-Wish Hawaii. Fifty dollars per car sold (new or used) went to each of the deserving charities.

The Young Leaders Board of Make-A-Wish Hawaii hosted its second annual Waffles for Wishes brunch at Ward Village Courtyard. The morning featured food, a Bloody Mary bar and entertainment from Super CW. Proceeds help the nonprofit organization grant the wishes of keiki who have life-threatening medical conditions.

Alyssa wished to attend medical school at UH Mānoa to give her hope and a goal to work toward. The John A. Burns School of Medicine held a special honorary white coat ceremony for Alyssa, and former UH basketball player and current first-year medical student (MD 2020) Sai Tummala presented her with a basketball signed by his classmates.

The 15-year-old from Texas has been diagnosed with osteosarcoma, bone cancer. University of Hawaii medical students weren't the only ones with a surprise for the teen. Alyssa also got to hang out and shoot hoops with UH Wahine basketball players. After that, Alyssa, who also has an interest in medicine, got to meet medical students - and took part in an honorary white coat ceremony.
