Our History

35 years of wishes come true

Hawaii insurance executive Jack Stanford incorporated our organization as the 13th chapter in 1982. Back then, board members fulfilled every aspect of these travel wishes and met wish children at the airport, hosted them at their homes and gave personal tours of the island. Our chapter was truly built on the spirit of Aloha.

First WishIn 1984, we granted our first local wish to a 10-year-old Hilo boy who wished to go to Disneyland. This was the start of something truly transformational in our community.

Hawaii founder Jack Stanford would go on to become the first CEO of Make-A-Wish® America.

Today ...

We stand as a truly unique chapter focused on granting the wishes of local keiki statewide while fulfilling our roots of hosting visiting wish families. We have proudly expanded to a staff of nearly 30 and an army of more than 700 volunteers spanning all islands. We also rely on our partnerships with 200 local businesses, tour activity companies and hotels to welcome more than 1,200 visiting wish families to Hawaii each year.
