Ask Tedd any question about world history and he can probably give you the answer. A bright student from Oahu, he is extremely well-versed in historical facts and has a particular passion for European history.
Tedd’s love of history developed during his homeschooling, due to his diagnosis of medulloblastoma. During that time, this history whiz enjoyed boosting his knowledge by reading books and watching documentaries whenever he had the chance. However, Tedd had the opportunity to increase his knowledge in a way that many history fanatics can only dream of. With the help of Make-A-Wish® Hawaii, Tedd was able to see first-hand what he reads about in his history books. He wished for a trip to Italy- a destination overflowing with historical buildings just waiting to be explored.
Before leaving on their trip, Tedd and his family enjoyed a little bit of Italy right here in Hawaii. They were treated to a send-off party at Buca Di Beppo, a vivacious restaurant bursting with Italian décor and cuisine. As they sat down to eat, surprises were just around the corner. Tedd and his family dined with a local Italian consul and Lani Misalucha, Philippine opera singer. Soon after, Tedd was given a tour of the restaurant kitchen!
After all that excitement, Tedd and his family were ready to experience the real Italy! Tedd was especially eager to visit the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa and Roman Colosseum because he dreamed of taking the iconic tourist photo of holding up the tower.
When in Italy, all of the places from his studies sprang to life right before Tedd’s eyes. He delved into the rich history of countless sites in Rome, Venice, Florence and Tuscany. Tedd was amazed by the Vatican and finally got to take his much anticipated picture holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa. His trip wouldn’t have been complete without an abundance of gelato and pizza, which he and his family enjoyed to the fullest – a special treat for Ted, who is rarely allowed sweets.
Tedd’s parents reported that the trip was the “most unforgettable experience” for him. Not only did it bring his favorite historical sites to life, but it also gave him and his family the opportunity to create a powerful history of their own by adding joyful memories to their family story.
