“ The wish helped us to understand that we can be happy and that we can get through anything together. ”

- Christina, Lyric's mom

On August 30, 2013, Lyric was diagnosed with acute lymphoid leukemia. Nothing could have prepared her family for the shocking news that would change their lives forever.

"It was our lowest point," Christina, Lyric's mom, said about that time in their lives. "It was really rough. We were depressed and it took us to a place we didn't expect to go." But, even when she and her family felt overwhelmed, they knew they had to stay strong for Lyric, while also continuing to be there for Lyric's younger brother, Jazz. Life had become a balancing act – worrying about Lyric's treatment, her pain and her health, all while trying to manage the rest of their busy lives.

At times it felt like it was just too much, but soon wish granters, Sandra Taca and Mark Lee, came into their lives and brought with them new hope. They asked Lyric to dream, and she made a wish to go to Walt Disney World! The date was set, and the family marked their calendars for November 19, 2015, to take off to Orlando!

Lyric met Elsa and Mickey Mouse, and even got dolled up as a princess at the bippity boppity boutique! She felt like royalty and so did her entire family. "We felt like we were VIP!" Christina recalled excitedly. Everything was taken care of and for the first time in a long time, they could focus on simply having fun as a family.

Lyric is nearing the end of treatment and times are still rough, but now she has a wish to look back on and memories to bring her joy for the rest of her life. "As soon as she got back to school, she shared her story with her friends. She always gets excited to talk about her wish," Christina said. "Whenever she’s feeling a little down, we talk about Disney and she’s overcome with happiness and pure joy."

The wish was more than a fun trip for Lyric and her family; it boosted their spirits, giving them new strength to face their challenges and hope for the future. "It brought us closer," Christina said. "It helped us to understand that we can be happy and that we can get through anything together."
