What could be more frightening for a parent than being told that your child has a rare blood cancer that requires aggressive treatment. The instant Alohilani’s family heard this news, they were in shock. How could this happen to their beautiful young girl?
"It was so hard to see her suffering," said Alohilani's mom, Rosanne. "We would give her the world if we could. We would take her place if we could."
It’s been more than two years since Alohilani was diagnosed, and she is still fighting back. But now, she and her family have a wish to gather strength from. Going to Walt Disney World and meeting her favorite princess, Belle, was pure magic. “It made her feel like a normal child. Alohi laughed, she mingled, she enjoyed every moment of it,” said Rosanne.
The moment she met Belle, Alohi felt a warmth in her heart. This comforting feeling continued throughout her wish experience. “She had this glow,” her mom recalled. “When we watched the fireworks show at Disney, she just lit up.” Seeing Alohi loving life again, was the biggest gift her family could ever ask for.
“This trip was all about her. Whatever she wanted to do, we did it. And now, her smile is even brighter. It was truly the happiest place on earth for Alohi.”
Rosanne and her family believe so strongly in the power of a wish and the importance of its impact, that they have become donors. “If we can help another family make their dream come true, we want to do it.”
After everything this family has been through, they know that a wish will help another family feel as if “a huge weight has been lifted off their shoulders,” not because the wish lightened their burden, but because it made them stronger, giving them the courage to laugh, love and light their own path to a brighter tomorrow.
