COMMUNICATIONS ART INTERNSHIP
This ongoing position entails working under the supervision of the Communications Department. This position requires skills in web design, HTML, videography, photography, and graphic design. Candidates must be pursuing or possess degrees related to this field and must be familiar with various software and design programs, including but not limited to, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dream Weaver, and Final Cut.
Depending on the department’s current needs, this position could range from intermittent freelance work, a one-time special project, or a formal in-office internship utilizing a variety of skills.
Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate experience in their areas of specialty that align with our current needs, which fluctuate seasonally. Due to the ebb and flow of our needs, this position can apply to beginner, aspiring designers as well as experienced freelancers looking to volunteer.
This position entails working with the writers of the Communications team to assist with short- and long-form writing for various communications collateral. Tasks include but are not limited to:
- Drafting compelling, concise social media posts for various platforms
- Creative writing for the Wish Stories section of our website as well as our Wish Blog
- News writing for media advisories, press releases, and other Wish News pieces
- Compelling writing for donor stewardship pieces, from Thank You letters to Shutterfly Gifts
- Copy writing for advertisements and other marketing materials
- Copy writing for email campaigns
Candidates interested in applying for this position should have a passion for and experience with interviewing, storytelling, and information gathering. Preference will be given to candidates pursuing or holding a degree in Communications. Individuals most successful in this internship thrive in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.
DONOR CARE, GRANTS & DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIPS
This individual will work with the Donor Care team to enter gifts into our database Raiser’s Edge, conduct grant research support, offer donor data management support, draft stewardship communications (thank-you letter writing, donor appeals, acknowledgement letters, etc.), and spearhead web and industry research. Must be extremely detail oriented and have a passion for learning. Ideal for applicants pursuing a degree in Public Administration or the non-profit sector, Communications or Public Relations. All majors are welcome.
VOLUNTEER & OUTREACH INTERNSHIPS
This individual will assist the Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator in all aspects of the Volunteer Program including but not limited to recruitment and training volunteers, managing volunteer files, processing applications, and communicating with volunteers. Must be comfortable and confident communicating over the phone. Ideal for applicants pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, or other related fields. All majors are welcome.
OFFICE MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIPS
This individual will work with the Administrative Assistant in all aspects of general office duties including organization and daily paperwork, run errands, create daily logs and deposits, answer phones, greet visitors, validate parking, and other assigned tasks as needed. Must be detail oriented, highly organized and able to multi-task, and comfortable and confident communicating over the phone. Ideal for applicants pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurial Studies, Human Resources, Public Administration, or other related fields. All majors are welcome.
DATABASE MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIPS
This individual will work with the Database Administrator in all aspects of Raiser’s Edge Database Management. Tasks will include:
- Assisting with donor database maintenance. This includes: merging constituent duplicate records, updating constituent records, linking records, and soft crediting participants.
- Entering constituent data for all individuals and organizations, including address updates, constituent demographics, and relationship links.
- Working with the development staff to enter notes and actions and set email reminders for donor follow-up and stewardship initiatives.
- Donor acknowledgement – assists with thank you letter compilation. This includes: mail merge through Raiser’s Edge, collating envelopes, sealing and stamping letters to be delivered.
Ideal for applicants pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurial Studies, Human Resources, Public Administration, or other related fields. All majors are welcome.
FINANCE DEPARTMENT INTERNSHIPS
This individual will work with the A/R Manager and Finance Director to support the overall effort of the Accounts Receivable and Finance team. Responsibilities include: assisting with accounts receivable, payable and bank statement reconciliation and audits, in-kind recognition, data entry into Raiser’s Edge, collaborating within department and ensuring the privacy and protection of confidential information. This individual will also be required to support our special events. Applicants should be Business, Finance, Economics or Accounting majors with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Attention to detail, the ability to multi-task and excellent communication skills are all essential to this position. Preferred 6 months to 1 year of current office experience.
MEDICAL OUTREACH INTERNSHIPS
This individual will support the Medical Outreach Department in all aspects as related to the medical outreach initiative. Responsibilities include: collaborating with the Medical Outreach Coordinator in outreach activities, attending and participating in said activities, assisting in trainings on specified medical outreach visits, completing special projects as determined to meet the needs of the department and general office work and data entry related to volunteers. Desired qualifications: at least a sophomore standing and enrolled in a college or university pursuing degree in a related field, organized, detailed-oriented and capable of managing multiple tasks, strong written and oral communication skills, experienced in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point, some previous medical experience preferred, friendly, outgoing, respectful and able to build rapport with diverse groups of people, due to the nature of outreach, access to an automobile is required.
