Wish mom Crystal on the role of a wish

Xzylie
Waipahu wish kid Xzylie is a sweet, stylish 4-year-old who has endured more than any child should. Her battle with leukemia has resulted in numerous complications and lengthy hospital stays, but her resilient nature has carried her and her mother Crystal through even the most difficult times. Xzylie’s wish to meet the princesses at Walt Disney World® has also helped Xzylie and Crystal stay positive throughout it all. Crystal shared what their journey has been like so far.

How would you describe Xzylie?
Xzylie is a little, soon-to-be 4 year old with a lot of sass. She can be very sweet and super playful.

What has Xzylie’s medical journey been like?
Xzylie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia back in August 2016. What seemed a common type of leukemia still came with a lot of complications. A common cold that turned into pneumonia ended up turning in to respiratory failure. She caught three different respiratory viruses…she also had multiple organ failure and was put on dialysis for her kidneys for two months. After almost 6 months living in [the hospital], she was finally discharged. She’s been in and out of the hospital and still had some hospital stays. It has been a very long and unpredictable journey, but nonetheless super blessed that she beat all odds.

How did you hear about Make-A-Wish Hawaii? How has your journey been so far?
I heard about it from the social worker. So far it is going great, and we try to get involved with Make-A-Wish.

What is Xzylie’s wish?
Xzylie’s wish is to go to Disney World. She has already been to Disneyland and loved it along with Mickey and Minnie Mouse. We also wanted her to experience Give Kids The World.

What would a wish come true mean?
Having her wish come true will truly be a blessing, because there’s nothing more we want than for Xzylie to always be happy and have a break from doctor visits and treatment.

What would you like people to know about Make-A-Wish?
I want people to know that Make-A-Wish truly does everything they can do to make our children happy. Aside from their wishes being granted, they always take the time to visit and have events that our children can participate in.
