On December 21, 2013 Make-A-Wish Hawaii® held its inaugural 5k fundraiser, Jingle Rock Run, and it was an amazing success! Over 3,000 people participated in the event – walkers, joggers and runners came out to enjoy the course through downtown Honolulu in support of the many wishes we have yet to grant. As part of the Holiday fun, individuals, families and teams dressed up in their best Christmas outfits - wish elves could be seen all along the streets of downtown!
Before the 5k started, a “Keiki Sprint” was held, allowing kids in different age groups to compete in a quarter mile race. Wish kids and children of our supporters dashed through the starting line and back while the crowd cheered them on. The race was a fun and rewarding part of the program as onlookers witnessed the strength of the children who are at the heart of our mission.
The event raised a remarkable $110,000 for our deserving Keiki. Many participants fundraised on their own adding to the impressive impact of the run. We also received the help of many amazing volunteers who donated their time to make sure the event ran smoothly. Over 150 volunteers came out to help with set-up and break-down and everything in between.
Jingle Rock Run 2013 was a true example of the community coming together to create a rockin’ success! As an annual event, Jingle Rock Run will be a highlight during the Christmas season for years to come!
