Waikapu resident Duke Au Hoon holds up his cellphone so his wife, Rachel, and 4-year-old daughter, Kahalau, can see Kristi Ota and other athletes participating in a fundraising “WOD for Wishes” workout Friday at Maui CrossFit Extreme in Wailuku. CrossFit boxes across the island joined with Make-A-Wish Hawaii for the workout as part of helping grant wishes of Kahalau and other Maui keiki with critical illnesses.

The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) hosted a Make-A-Wish Foundation child and family to fulfill his dream of becoming a meteorologist. Since he was young, Connor, of Pennsylvania, has been fascinated by extreme weather events and natural disasters like hurricanes and tsunamis. The Make-A-Wish Foundation flew Connor and his family to Oahu to tour the JTWC, which forecasts for tropical cyclones in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, where 80% of the world's total tropical cyclones occur.
